Performance Management System

The purpose of Performance Management is to improve performance and decision-making, indicate the City is being managed, provide a mechanism for accountability and allow citizens to know what we do.  For more information on Performance Management, click here

The City of Tacoma is a member of the International City/County Management Association's Center for Performance Measurement.  In 2009, the City received a Certificate of Achievement from the Center for Performance Measurement for using performance measurement to drive organizational improvement.

The seven components of the City of Tacoma's Performance Management System are:

**Performance Reporting for Citizens:  These easy-to-read documents help citizens see how the City is performing.

Strategic Direction: City priorities established by the City Council.

City Manager Goals: City Manager Goals are aligned with the City Council's Strategic Direction.

Department Business Plans:  The goal-based plans of each department are aligned with both the Strategic Direction and the City Manager Goals.  Also, this section includes orientations for each department.

Service Level Agreements:  The service level standards provided by departments.

Internal Auditor:  This office is a consulting resource to help the City improve its operation.

Performance Measures:  Data that indicates the progress toward the City's goals.
