The City of Tacoma is a member of the International City/County Management Association's Center for Performance Measurement. In 2009, the City received a Certificate of Achievement from the Center for Performance Measurement for using performance measurement to drive organizational improvement.
The seven components of the City of Tacoma's Performance Management System are:
**Performance Reporting for Citizens: These easy-to-read documents help citizens see how the City is performing.
Strategic Direction: City priorities established by the City Council.
City Manager Goals: City Manager Goals are aligned with the City Council's Strategic Direction.
Department Business Plans: The goal-based plans of each department are aligned with both the Strategic Direction and the City Manager Goals. Also, this section includes orientations for each department.
Service Level Agreements: The service level standards provided by departments.
Internal Auditor: This office is a consulting resource to help the City improve its operation.
Performance Measures: Data that indicates the progress toward the City's goals.
