The City of Tacoma’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit is responsible for enforcing State, Federal and Local law’s pertaining to the safe operation of Commercial Vehicles and the transportation of Hazardous Materials in The City of Tacoma. In addition to conducting safety inspections the unit also enforces size, weight and load laws related to commercial vehicles.
The goal of the unit is to insure the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles and to protect Tacoma’s infrastructure. This is done thru roadside and terminal safety inspections. The unit also performs portable weighing operations.
The officers assigned to the Motor Carrier Safety Unit maintain a certification from the USDOT to conduct CVSA inspections. The purpose of CVSA is to promote Commercial Vehicle safety through education and a consistent application of safety regulations and inspection procedures.
The unit is an active member of the Washington Association of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers. The association is comprised of Sheriff Deputies, Police Officers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers from around the State of Washington. For more info visit: www.wacveo.com
